This page includes links and information on our work on Edward East, who was twice Master of the Clockmakers’ Company of London and also Prime Warden for the Goldsmiths’ Company. Our work has been published in two parts in the journal Antiquarian Horology. A tree of the East family is available as a public tree on ancestry.co.uk.
I am pleased to be able to say that our article was subsequently awarded the 2018 Percy Dawson Medal by the Antiquarian Horological Society. This award is offered annually for the article that the Committee of the Society considers the best contribution to the society’s journal in any one year. More information is given on our blog.

References and Further Information
Since the publication of the articles, I have discovered that James EAST (alongside a very long list of his creditors) took the executors of the Duke of Richmond and Lennox to Chancery for payment of outstanding debts that the Duke owed on his demise in 1672 (TNA: C78-1679). The bills are mentioned in the article, but here is the action against the estate.
